Is There Any Book That Has Made A Difference In Your Life?

There are many books that we enjoy reading. There are many books that we find impossible to put down. There are many great books that we give as gifts to our friends. But there are only a few books that really have a noticeable effect on our lives. Do you know what kind of books am I talking about?

For me one of these books was Stephen R. Covey’s book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. I have heard about and read many self-help books that talked about the importance of taking responsibility for my life and everything that happens s to me.

It made sense, but still “taking responsibility” seemed a little ‘heavy’ to me. It felt like I must heap the burden of responsibility for all of my failures, mistakes, negative thoughts and actions onto my tiny shoulders and carry it around like an old heavy coat that I neither liked, nor needed to keep warm.

Stephen Covey talked about being pro-active and taking charge of my career and personal development rather than passively reacting to whatever situations life throws my way. Basically, this was the same old “take responsibility for your life” concept, but it suddenly made perfect sense! I finally got it! You know when you put a cap on the marker and it looks closed, but if you push a little harder you hear it click. Similar we can know something for years, but one day it just “clicks”!

Is there a book that has had a great impact on your life? What is it?

And more importantly in what way or in which specific area of your life did that book help you?

7 Habits is one of mine as well! Another favorite is Captivating, by Christian authors John and Stasi Eldredge. For me, it brought understanding as to why I feel the way that I do as a woman and daughter of Christ.

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne and most importantly "Ask and it is given" by Abraham Hicks have a profound effect on my life. It is like i knew these stuff since long but it clicked it got crystal cleared after reading these books. There are other titles by Abraham Hicks, that helped a lot. All these books helped me understand the metaphysical phenomena like what is going on behind any incident happening in our lives why something happens in our lives that we dont want, etc. I am applying the knowledge mentioned in the books and the more i apply and understand the more i get better results. thanks.

That is very good idea to share books. " 7 habits of highly effective people", there is a series of books written by Steven R. Covey. and for teenagers "7 habits of highly effective teens" is best, as it is quite understandable for teenagers. Reciently Nepolean Hill's "Think and Grow Rich" is best in my sense. A Christian book "Power in Praise" by Merlin Carother truely changed by life and Arina this book is recomendation from me for you.

“Undoing Depression”, can’t remember the doc’s name that wrote it but his depression was like mine only he saw it through clinical perspective as well as sufferer of chronic med resistant depression. I found out a that constant thinking was a sign of depression. It is why i’ve never been a good sleeper because I have to replay everything that happened and plan for the next day. I had never heard that before and it was a real piece of the puzzle for me that I had been missing. I bought the book for a quarter at a thrift store and had intended to give it to a friend. lol

It’s great when one of your monsters gains a face.

Have you read, “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz? It outlines 4 ‘Agreements’ you need to follow

    Agreement 1

Be impeccable with your word – Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

    Agreement 2

Don’t take anything personally – Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

    Agreement 3

Don’t make assumptions – Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

    Agreement 4

Always do your best – Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

It is a great book! Enjoy!

    Be Well.

The Magic of Thinking Big has sold millions of copies for a good reason. The best for me was and still is Colin Turners Born To Succeed. Amazing practical book you can start to apply to your life from day. i of his favourite quotes is “instead of having the rug pulled from under our feet, we need to learn to dance on a moving carpet.” BRILLIANT advice to apply in whatever we do.

The book that changes me on looking at my world is actually a story book name Anne of Green Gables written by L.M. Montgomery if I spell it correctly. The story is about a girl with a difference in the attitude from any other girls. For me she is a proactive girl who go out into the world and said ‘I am Anne spell with an ‘e’ and you should know how to spell my name’. The story have change me into a more positive person and looking forward for new experience and put my name on it. Sometimes, good book does not necessarily come from a motivational kind of way but also come from a very good story teller.

THE VEGETARIAN MYTH: FOOD CULTURE AND SUSTAINABILITY by Lierre (prounced Pierre) Keith. From worms and microbes to cholesterol and soy to monocrops…
very fine reading, good science. By a former vegan who damaged herself by not eating meat. There is a bit about the 7th Day Adventist who are ok. High fructose corn syrup and soy in almost every thing you get at the supermarket.
    Buyer beware.
