What Would Be The First Item, You Would Grab If Your Office Caught On Fire?

carry out of the office 300x198 What Would Be The First Item, You Would Grab If Your Office Caught On Fire?

Last week I had an appointment with a cosmetologist for a facial massage (one of my best friends gave me a gift certificate for a beauty salon for Christmas).
I was chatting with my cosmetologist about beauty products and she said about one of the creams, “You know, Arina, if this building caught on fire the first thing I would carry out of here would be this cream!”- And she pointed to a rose – colored jar. An interesting way to phrase a sentence, don’t you think?
What would I carry out if my office caught on fire? I would definitely grab my laptop and if I had enough time, the external hard disk and two-three of my most valuable books. I know, I am probably a geek, but my laptop is my business and big part of my life!
What about you? What is the most valuable object that you have in the office?
Would you grab anything on your way out in case of a fire? Or would you run for the door, feeling relieved that Heaven itself has given you a legitimate excuse to stop working and take a couple days off?
Come on, be honest! Let’s get to know each other better!

It Depends where the fire is. It depends if I know the building well. It depends where in the building I am. It depends what I have in my office. There is no good or bad answer, because “IT DEPENDS.”

And, “It Depends” will dictate your priorities at that moment in time.

Without a moment’s hesitation, if I had enough time, I would grab my laptop and jump drive which has all of my work stored on it first, while grabbing my glasses to see (I don’t need my glasses to use my computer. Since my laptop is my communication tool with the outside world, I would be lost without it. I keep my cell phone and keys in my pocket at all times so I wouldn’t be scrambling around to look for those items. I’d also help the other people out of the building if i worked in a big building, but as I am self-employed, these items would be the only things I would grab. Oh, I’d let the cat out too.

  19. Alex Says:

All I need to grab are my keys and wallet… Everything else should be in my portable fireproof safe so I can leave it behind and grab it later
. I must say I’m a slightly better prepared since I have been in that situation in the past! And then just make sure everyone is out safely.

  20. Arina Says:

Alex, I’m sorry that you had to go through this… Hope that no one got hurt and that you had enough time to pack your personal items and take them with you. By the way, portable fireproof safe is a great idea!

Well the first thing wht i will do is , I WILL ONLY SAVE MY LIFE , I remember my grandfather use to say when my father was in tension or stress & when my dad use to think that this is now end of world bcoz of stress. Then my grandpa use to say SAR SALAMAT TO PAGDI PACHAS means if ur head is safe u can wear 100’s of cap on ur head.So my priority will be just to save my life nothing else :)

  26. Angela Says:

I would grab my 4 wiener dogs that go to work with me every day! Although they would most likely beat me to the door.

  27. Paul Taubman Says:

My first thought is similar to many – I would grab my computer. It has the data for my websites including http://www.AllAboutGratitude.com – but unlink many, I run off a Mac Pro desktop machine. This weighs close to 40 pounds so I am not sure I would grab it (depending on the severity of the fire).

I appreciate you bringing this up because it really got me to think about my backup process. I do make daily backups, but they are all saved on-site! I am now thinking of off-site backup solutions.

    Be Well.
    Paul.
