Find Your Calling: It’s All About the Right Education and Career Choices

dream job1 300x204 Find Your Calling: It’s All About the Right Education and Career ChoicesI have met all kinds of people, who honestly believe that they are not good at anything. They simply get on with their lives.

It is firmly engraved in our society that you should choose an education that will guarantee a well-paid job. The same goes for a career. This is why we get a bunch of unhappy people who are working in jobs that bore them to tears and leave them feeling that there is something missing from their life.

Surprisingly, too many of us view our job only as a source of income, not taking time to ask ourselves if what we do is aligned with our interests, values, or our passion.

And I believe that it all starts with education…

Tips from Masters: Henrik Edberg of Positivity Blog on finding your true passion and keeping focused

This is one in a series of interviews of self help experts and bloggers in the Tips from Masters series.
Jonathan Fields is author and career coach who in his recent book Career Renegade shares how to make a great living doing what you love. Jonathan writes at his blog,  www.jonathanfields.com, about success, leadership, life balance and today he’ll share with you some profound tips on mindset training, focus and passion.
1. Pretty much by accident, I just started writing because I liked sharing exciting stuff with people and the Internet seemed like a good place to do that. In the beginning – like 10 years ago – I wrote about music and films in Swedish. For the last few years I have shared things I have learned about life and personal development.
I think the best way to find what your passion – or just what you really, really like to do – is to try many things. To go out and explore life. Because you never know how things really are and what you think of them until you have tried them. Get many experiences and you’ll probably find something you really like.
2. Well, I have a to-do list on my computer with concrete actions that I can take to move myself towards my goals. I also use a white board on my wall that I see all the time with my main goals so I don’t get derailed. Then I just focus on today and the now and doing what I know are the right things to do today to move myself forward.
3. With the white board as I mentioned in the previous answer. I also find that being present as much as I can helps me to focus on what I am doing instead of getting distracted. Another good thing is to work out a lot, it makes it easier to focus the mind and have the extra energy that is needed. I also have set limits for myself, so I only check email, Facebook, blog statistics once a day for example. These things keeps my life reasonably simple and focused.

1. How did you find your passion? What do you think is the best way for other people to find theirs?

Pretty much by accident, I just started writing because I liked sharing exciting stuff with people and the Internet seemed like a good place to do that. In the beginning – like 10 years ago – I wrote about music and films in Swedish. For the last few years I have shared things I have learned about life and personal development.

Because you never know how things really are and what you think of them until you have tried them. Get many experiences and you’ll probably find something you really like.

2. How do you go from goal setting to implementation? How do you make sure that you take constant action toward your goals?

Well, I have a to-do list on my computer with concrete actions that I can take to move myself towards my goals. I also use a white board on my wall that I see all the time with my main goals so I don’t get derailed. Then I just focus on today and the now and doing what I know are the right things to do today to move myself forward.

A Shortcut to Discovering Your Absolutely Best Self

I often wonder, what would have become of me if my parents had sent me to a music school when I was little or had taken me to tennis classes. I might have been giving concerts all over the world or been competing against Maria Sharapova. You may say that this is just daydreaming and will get me nowhere. May be…
But have you never wondered what your life would be like if you had stayed together with your High school Sweetheart? Or if you had not turned down a job offer because you were afraid you might not be able to handle all the new responsibilities that came with it? Or if you had just a little bit more courage to act on your dream, instead of letting an opportunity go by?
Do you ever get the feeling that there should be more to life? Or that you still have not uncovered your full potential?  Well, it is not too late!
Here are 3 steps that you can take to become your Absolute Best Self:
1. Find your passion.
We are not usually born knowing exactly what would we like to do.  Like tiny puzzle pieces we put together our interests, hobbies, bits of knowledge, different talents and skills to get the whole picture and discover our true passion. After this the next ultimate challenge is to figure out how to make money by doing what you love to do.
Statistics shows that just 30% of the world’s population has got to this level. The rest of us are still struggling to discover what truly inspires us, and what would keep us feeling excited, happy and truly alive. There is no one passion that “fits all”. For each person the answer to this question will be unique.
What puts a smile on your face? Is there a particular event, a particular topic that makes your whole face just lighten up with enthusiasm? What activity fully absorbs you and makes you lose track of time and forget about lunch? What would you be happy to do even if you did not get paid for doing it? Think of something that you just want to do for the sake of doing it! Something that just feels right.
This is your passion!
2. Be willing to experiment.
Every time we try something new, we get a better understanding of our likes, abilities, skills and character. In order to find out what is or is not possible you have to aim for something that you have not achieved or tried before. This sometimes leads to failure. But this is ok, because together with this failure comes a greater self-knowledge, allowing us to make wiser choices in the future.
You were born with many different gifts and talents. Some of them have been obvious to you from the start, and some are still waiting to be discovered!
Do not close your mind to new possibilities, new ideas and new hobbies. Do not be afraid to experiment and take chances. Hush the skeptic inside of you and approach life with the curiosity and enthusiasm of a five-year-old. And you are sure to make many discoveries; about yourself, the people that you have known for ages and the world around you.
3. Recognize that the world is not a race. A race assumes that you should always be better than your “competitor”. The moment you start comparing yourself with someone else is the moment that you stop having fun and enjoying the process and concentrate solely on results.
Everyone has an inborn desire for growth and improvement. However, often instead of striving to reach a personal best, we start to concentrate on kicking everyone else’s butt at something. And this is when things get ugly…
Because if you compare yourself with the best you feel discouraged and start to wonder how you can ever come in first place. And if you compare yourself with the worst, you get over-confident and stop trying hard.
The only race you have to be in – is with yourself, because your achievements are the only ones that matter at the end of the day!
