7 Keys to a Real Good Life

friends on the beach 300x192 7 Keys to a Real Good LifePeople often define a “good life” as “looking good”, “feeling good” and “having the goods”. But it goes much deeper than this.

Life is really good:

• When it is filled with happiness, discovery and love
• When you wake up and go to bed with a smile on your face, giving thanks for another great day
• When you are passionate about your work
• When you are surrounded by people you love, respect, admire and learn from
• When you have no regrets about your past and no doubts about your future

There are no secrets to living a good life, but there are a few keys that we sometimes overlook. Here are 7 of them that came to mind:

1. Find your direction in life.

For a long time I had been frantically looking for my one and only life purpose. I was afraid that I would not be able to figure it out before I died and my life would be meaningless and wasted.
Slowly it has dawned on me, that I do not have to look for THE life purpose and see it as a goal that I must accomplish. All I have to do is to choose the direction that I would like to follow and take the first step.

A well-lived life does not sum up to some objective result. It is a continuous journey, a process of self-discovery, self-improvement and self-realization. Your life purpose might be hidden from you at the moment, but it does not mean that you should be standing still. Find the path that is aligned with your inner values, life goals and heart-felt desires and everything else will fall into place.

2. Take care of yourself.

Life Purpose Double Check: Where Not To Look For Your Life Purpose

discovering life purpose 300x207 Life Purpose Double Check: Where Not To Look For Your Life PurposeAt one time or another we have all asked ourselves the dreaded questions, “Why am I here?” , “What is my life purpose?”
Mozart composed his first minuet when he was 5. No one taught him how to play the piano at this age. He just knew what he wanted to do.
Michael Jordan started playing basketball with his older brother Larry when he was 5 and was losing for years. But his numerous failures only encouraged him to practice more and push himself forward.
We hear about great names like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, who devoted their lives to fulfilling their life purpose and changing the life of whole nations.
We read about the lives of these people and then ask ourselves the dreaded questions, “Why am I here?” and “What is MY life purpose?”
I have been asking myself this question for years. There were so many questions running through my head back then: “Am I allowed to have only one big life purpose or can I fulfill 10-20 smaller purposes?”, “Could my future career, my family or my long-term goals be my life purpose?”, “What if I am not sure what my gifts and talents are?” and finally, “How in the world am I supposed to figure it all out?”
4 Wrong Places to look for your life purpose.
Right now there are a lot of programs that offer different approaches to finding our true calling. You can try anything from “Life purpose tests” to Steve Pavlina’s 20-minute brainstorming technique. And if you are still unsure there are plenty of books and seminars dedicated specifically to seeking a sense of meaning.
I cannot claim that I can solve this problem for you and tell you what your True Calling is, but here is what I have learned from my own years of search:
1. Life purpose is not hidden in material possessions. Finding our purpose is often associated with feeling happy, alive, and powerful. The riches of the world can make you feel joy, enthusiasm, and even happiness. Only there is a significant difference between true happiness and the satisfaction that we get when we receive the “next cool thing”: the first one last a life time, the second passes in a week.
If money could bring true happiness and long-lasting satisfaction the wealthiest people in the world would be the happiest ones. But they are not! It is narrow-minded to think that your body, mind, soul, personality, abilities, talents, and experience were given you, so that you could make money, provide for your family or attract wealth into your life.  There has got to be more than this and your heart knows it.
2. Life purpose is not centered on your goals, needs and desires. This might sound outrages to some people, but true life purpose is based on serving others in some way, not on you getting everything you ever dreamed of. This is not authentic. In fact, it actually works the other way around – first you add value to the world and then you actually receive everything you need without you even having to ask for it.

A Shortcut to Discovering Your Absolutely Best Self

I often wonder, what would have become of me if my parents had sent me to a music school when I was little or had taken me to tennis classes. I might have been giving concerts all over the world or been competing against Maria Sharapova. You may say that this is just daydreaming and will get me nowhere. May be…
But have you never wondered what your life would be like if you had stayed together with your High school Sweetheart? Or if you had not turned down a job offer because you were afraid you might not be able to handle all the new responsibilities that came with it? Or if you had just a little bit more courage to act on your dream, instead of letting an opportunity go by?
Do you ever get the feeling that there should be more to life? Or that you still have not uncovered your full potential?  Well, it is not too late!
Here are 3 steps that you can take to become your Absolute Best Self:
1. Find your passion.
We are not usually born knowing exactly what would we like to do.  Like tiny puzzle pieces we put together our interests, hobbies, bits of knowledge, different talents and skills to get the whole picture and discover our true passion. After this the next ultimate challenge is to figure out how to make money by doing what you love to do.
Statistics shows that just 30% of the world’s population has got to this level. The rest of us are still struggling to discover what truly inspires us, and what would keep us feeling excited, happy and truly alive. There is no one passion that “fits all”. For each person the answer to this question will be unique.
What puts a smile on your face? Is there a particular event, a particular topic that makes your whole face just lighten up with enthusiasm? What activity fully absorbs you and makes you lose track of time and forget about lunch? What would you be happy to do even if you did not get paid for doing it? Think of something that you just want to do for the sake of doing it! Something that just feels right.
This is your passion!
2. Be willing to experiment.
Every time we try something new, we get a better understanding of our likes, abilities, skills and character. In order to find out what is or is not possible you have to aim for something that you have not achieved or tried before. This sometimes leads to failure. But this is ok, because together with this failure comes a greater self-knowledge, allowing us to make wiser choices in the future.
You were born with many different gifts and talents. Some of them have been obvious to you from the start, and some are still waiting to be discovered!
Do not close your mind to new possibilities, new ideas and new hobbies. Do not be afraid to experiment and take chances. Hush the skeptic inside of you and approach life with the curiosity and enthusiasm of a five-year-old. And you are sure to make many discoveries; about yourself, the people that you have known for ages and the world around you.
3. Recognize that the world is not a race. A race assumes that you should always be better than your “competitor”. The moment you start comparing yourself with someone else is the moment that you stop having fun and enjoying the process and concentrate solely on results.
Everyone has an inborn desire for growth and improvement. However, often instead of striving to reach a personal best, we start to concentrate on kicking everyone else’s butt at something. And this is when things get ugly…
Because if you compare yourself with the best you feel discouraged and start to wonder how you can ever come in first place. And if you compare yourself with the worst, you get over-confident and stop trying hard.
The only race you have to be in – is with yourself, because your achievements are the only ones that matter at the end of the day!
