extraordinary talent dogs1 300x198 If You Could Possess an Extraordinary Talent in One of the Arts, What Would You Like It to Be?I believe that every single person already possesses at least one extraordinary talent. We feel a natural inclination to sing or dance, and some of our talents are still waiting to be discovered.

For example, when I was in High School I could not stand writing compositions and essays or analyzing the works of famous writers and poets. It would take me two whole days to come up with something moderately decent, because I would spend hours looking for the right word or the best way to phrase my thoughts (not that I had a lot of them to share in the first place).

To my great surprise when I was at College one of my friends asked me to write an article for the local magazine on how to rescue a drowning person. I remember that I sat down and wrote it in about half an hour, enjoying myself tremendously. It was nothing like 10-page essays!

It turned out that I was good at writing and that I actually loved it!

I am not sure that my ability to write can be called extraordinary, but this is the first talent I would choose to have. The second one without a doubt would be the ability to paint. I recently wrote a letter to a 10-year old boy attempting to draw a dog at the end of the page. My dog turned out to be so ugly that I had to rewrite the whole letter in order not to shock the poor kid. Thank God, there is youtube.com with its course on “How to draw a dog for children”. The second letter turned out much better.

I am not in the least bit discouraged! Who knows, maybe 20 years from now I will discover my own painting style and make a whole series of ugly dog painting. icon smile If You Could Possess an Extraordinary Talent in One of the Arts, What Would You Like It to Be?

But enough about me…

I am a lot more interested to find out what extraordinary talent you would like to possess?

    I believe that I would have to choose singing and dancing, at a professional level. Ha! I do both now, but not to the degree that anyone would want to watch or listen to–more for my own enjoyment!!! I guess we have to be careful when we turn our gifts into something we do for a living. Then, it becomes work. I like to write and do it moderately well. But when I tried to get something published, it completely devastated me to get rejection letter after rejection letter, I write very little, now. As a somewhat ‘gifted’ floral designer, some days it is a drudgery because I have to do it to pay bills. So, give me ballroom dance for fun and to be able to belt out a good praise and worship song to bring honor to God, and anyone else that might be around…and I think that would make my heart happy!

    With your posted questions Arina, I can’t help but feel that I need to jump in and answer right away just like an eager and energetic student in a classroom, holding his hand up at all times. Yet as this student stands up and opens his mouth, nothing comes out but a big “UH”. Maybe he shouldn’t have rushed. Feelings are a strong driving factor but without words, how can such feelings be expressed?

    I too enjoy writing. I tried to be a serious writer but was also turned down by some magazines and contests. So now I call myself a casual writer. I write when I need to liberate myself from trapped feelings. I write when I have a certain opinion that I need to announce. I write when someone confides in me and opens up his/her heart and lets me peek inside. I write without panting after getting published.

    I recently discovered the joy of ballroom dancing. I found a Ballroom-line-dancing class that requires no parter and I joined and had so much fun.

    This coming spring I enrolled in a ‘Musical Theatre’ class and I am so looking forward to it.

    Writing, acting, singing, dancing, I love it all and I can do it all to a certain degree. But if I am to master one talent and have an extraordinary ability in it, I think it will be composing and playing music. I have no specific instrument in mind just yet. But I have strong feeling that it will make my heart happy just like Countryporch02 noted in his/her comment.
