While most of us believe that change takes time, world-renown motivational speaker Anthony Robbins does not agree with this. He is convinced that it is preparation to change that takes time. Change itself occurs in an instant.
This makes sense if you look at change not as a life-changing transformation, but as a number of tiny actions that bring us immediate results.
Of course, it takes weeks to get ready for a marathon, months to learn a new language and years to build strong happy relationships. I will be the first to tell you that there is no way of naturally losing 35 pounds in a day or writing a book overnight.
Every lost ounce, every written word, every single compromise that you make (even when you do not feel like it), is already a small victory, a little step towards a much bigger and more noticeable change.
According to Anthony Robbins there are Three Main Beliefs that are crucial for any long-lasting transformation to take place:
1. Something must change.
When everything seems to be going fine in our lives we tend to relax and get lazy. It is only when our ‘comfort zone’ gets too uncomfortable that we become determined to change something about our current situation and readily take proactive steps to do this.
Let’s do a quick experiment.
Think about one goal that you would like to achieve. Now be honest, and on the scale from 1 to 10 evaluate how much effort you invest in achieving it. If you believe that you are not doing enough, maybe you simply do not feel the urgency to take action on it?
There is a huge difference between ‘sort of wanting something’ and ‘absolutely must having it’. If you want to change any aspect of your life, you must believe with all your heart that the time has come. And the time is NOW.
2. I must change it.
Other people might help you to succeed, but it is YOU who make things happen! Every little aspect of your life today is a direct result of choices that you made in the past. Accepting this idea might be difficult at first, but as soon as you do, you will feel powerful, daring, and creative.
There is nothing more disheartening than living with the belief that your own happiness and success depends on other people or outside circumstances. Just as there is nothing more inspiring than knowing that you have the power to change any habit, choose your response to any situation and achieve any goal, you set your mind to!
3. I can change it.
The way you evaluate your chances of success will directly influence the actions that you take towards your goals. If you doubt your abilities and do not trust your own judgments you will follow everyone else’s advice instead of doing what you feel is right.
Do not let your fears, past failures and negative conditioning stop you from moving forward and changing the areas of your life that you are not happy about! The truth is that you can do incredible things when you put your mind to it – this is what every motivational speaker, spiritual leader or Noble Prize winner would tell you. So how come you still have doubts?
