5 Brilliantly-Simple Ways to Increase Your IQ

Who wouldn’t want to be more intelligent? Make quicker decisions? Discover 5 ways to increase your IQ!Who wouldn't want to be more intelligent? Make quicker decisions? Not to be the last one to laugh at the friends’ jokes?

The good news is that there is more to increasing your IQ than studying and reading books. There some great tips, on how to become smarter that are based on scientific research, yet that are easy to follow.

Even if you take and apply just a couple of these IQ-boosting tips, they will still make a difference in your everyday life!

5 Easy Ways to Increase Your IQ:

1. Walk Around the Block.

Besides the obvious benefits of exercising, now there is one more reason to embrace a healthier lifestyle. Research showed that physical activity can go a long way in increasing your IQ. In 18 studies, people who exercised outperformed those who did not in long-term memory, attention, reasoning, problem-solving, abstract thinking, and more. It is also believed that an active lifestyle can decrease a risk of dementia in older people by 50%. Not bad, right? However, if you still can’t make yourself to hit the gym or start working out at home, don’t despair! The two tips below can be great alternatives to exercising…

2. Take Deep Breaths.

If you are reading this post, then I assume that you can breathe well enough to live. But does it mean that you are breathing the best you could? Probably not. Most adults are chest breathers. It means that we don’t use our diaphragm while breathing, which decreases the capacity of our lungs and makes our breathing shallower. Every one of our body’s systems from detoxification to burning fat requires oxygen. And the brain is not an exception. By breathing deeply we can improve brain function almost instantly.

3. Meditate.

Meditation is not an exercise. It doesn't require you to flex your muscles or do any type of physical effort. In fact it doesn't require you to make any mental effort as well. But it teaches you concentration and the art of being present. Neuro-psychologists actually say that meditation can alter brain structure. MRI scans of long-term meditators have shown greater activity in the brain circuits involved in paying attention. This, in turn, leads to better memory and increased IQ.

4. Eat the right type of breakfast.

First, eating breakfast has been proven to improve  memory, concentration, problem solving skills, mental performance, and mood. So if you usually skip breakfast, maybe you should reconsider. Second, make sure that you eat the kind of breakfast that helps you to increase your IQ and boost your brain-power, not put you back to sleep. Simple carbohydrates (like sugar, white bread, doughnuts, etc…) can decrease you energy levels and lower your concentration. On the other hand, antioxidant-rich foods (as berries, prunes, apples and raisins) help to protect brain cells and give your body the necessary boost of energy to face the day.

5. Keep a Journal.

Catherine M. Cox, author of a well-known best-seller “Early Mental Traits of Three Hundred Geniuses” believes that there is a connection between keeping a journal and high IQ. She studied the habits of 300 geniuses, including Albert Einstein, Thomas Alva Edison, Isaac Newton and Thomas Jefferson, and discovered that they were all “compulsive” journal or diary keepers.

Now, maybe you don’t have many genial ideas worth writing about. It doesn't matter! As a French philosopher once said, “Genius is nothing but continued attention.” Keeping a journal will definitely help you to pay greater attention to ideas, things, events that take place daily.

Note: While these tips will help you to increase your IQ, it’s also worth knowing that EQ or Emotional Intelligence plays an important role in your professional success and your relationships. Look at it this way – a high IQ is just potential. The real question is how are you going to use it?
